A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Tim Yip: Reformation
A renowned art director and designer for film and stage, Yip has won an Academy Award and BAFTA Award for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He takes over Power Station of Art for an exhibition rooted in his concept of neo-orientalism that many have credited for helping the world appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture and arts. Reformation contains Yip’s works across a variety of media from photography to installation (see cover image). The exhibition is part of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

2. Touch Our Buttons
The ever-playful Basement 6 hosts this one-night arcade celebrating the works of Bukkakemono Industries - a group comprised of interactive game designer Mike Re, visual artist Bryan Fischer and photographer/handyman Weini Tey. Featured games include Hot Mess (pictured) - digital twister with a twist where players must touch skin of the other players while also touching the game points, Sportz - a pong inspired game with mind-melting graphics and Jump For Your Life - a three player action game that will makes its Basement 6 debut.

3. Pixy Liao: Venus As A Boy
Leo Xu Projects welcomes the Shanghai-born Brooklyn-based photographer who studied the form at the University of Memphis In Venus as a Boy, Liao takes inspiration from the New American Color Photography style turning her focus on the contemporary lives of Asian immigrants in western society wittily staging scenes challenging preconceived notions about characteristics in different genres within youthful segments of that group. Opens on September 24 from 6-8pm.

4. The World of Tim Burton
No one would ever accuse Tim Burton of lacking style. From Beetlejuice to The Corpse’s Bride, the director/producer/writer/animator has carved out a distinctly dark gothic style that remains highly influential. This massive touring exhibition features over 500 pieces of his work dating back to his childhood bringing visitors deep into his mind, split into nine areas based around a movie theme. 5. Cut & Un-Cut — Ross Lewis and Cécile Girard in Conversation
Inspired by China’s rich artistic traditions, Ross Lewis and Cécile Girard team up for this dual exhibition showcasing their newest paper works.

6. Lost Opportunities?
This group exhibition features recent works from nine international artists spanning a variety of media, featuring contributions from Eric Leleu (pictured), Per Adolfsen, Monika Lin, Li Wenguang and Douglas Coupland.
